Blogger Party !!

Hey readers! Today I wanted to participate in a quick tag from Abigail Lennah from the Ups & Downs. She recently did a post about her dream blogger meet up, and I was so excited to participate. If you haven't read her post yet, go read it, because all her ideas are so awesome. As for my dream blogger party (to which you are ALL invited):

Venue: Ok definitely a big city, such as New York or LA. We'd need a lot of places to visit and aesthetic things to do. Plus exploring the city with all of you in small groups, taking photos, eating at little cafes, and buying stuff at little shops would be so much fun.

Three Foods:
1) Pancakes. Every morning. Vanessa did a pancake tag forever ago and I still haven't gotten those photos out of my head I need to eat a pancake breakfast with you all.
2) Tea and coffee (even though they are drinks) because who hasn't posted a photo of their aesthetic drink before? Plus I'm pretty sure every blogger has either a tea or coffee obsession (or at least all the ones I've talked to).
3) Pasta and salad. Because it's pasta and salad and everyone likes it and nothing is better than spaghetti and caesar salad after a long day out.

Five Artists or Bands: Oh no. I'm going to try and choose not super obscure stuff ok I'm really trying.
1) Panic! At the Disco because don't pretend like half of you guys aren't secretly emo ok we're going to need that.
2) Probably Lorde because her new Melodrama album is priceless and would be great to listen to while talking and chilling late into the night.
3) American Authors are also just nice to jam and generally upbeat and happy too add those guys in there.
4) Depeche Mode. Because aesthetic jam.
5) Ed Sheeran because I'm pretty sure everyone knows some of his songs and they're all pretty nice and pleasant.

Three Activities:
1) TAKING PHOTOS OF THE AESTHETICS
2) Ranting. About books and movies and art and everything in between.
3) Probably sitting around reading because let's be real like over half of us are introverts and are going to need that downtime. I'm not an extrovert so I'll be partaking in that. For extroverts who don't want to read (because you very well might and if so please join us) there will be an ongoing dance party which everyone is free to participate in (including introverts I love dancing so I will also be there).

Collab Post to Do At the Party:
Hmm. I feel like it would be fun to write a story with some of you writers out there. Or maybe a creative thing where each of us tells a story from a different characters perspective and puts them all together to make a very dynamic impression of a single experience? Let me know if you want to participate in that with me haha I feel like it would be so cool.

What Interactions or Habits Would You Notice? Well the first thing that popped into my head is that I'd see who was actually a neat organized person and who just sweeps everything off their desk so they can take the "clean" picture. I am an in between to be honest. I would also like to see who is constantly writing/drawing in notebooks (me) or taking photos with their fancy camera. I like to watch artists in action. Also I'm excited to see my fashion blogger friends preparing special outfits for days out (give me some tips please).

Madeline @ A Chic Bookworm!

I have had a lot of fun checking out Madeline's lovely bookish blog and getting to know her through her posts. I found that Madeline and I have a lot in common- besides both being book-obsessed bloggers we also both run cross country! 

So as Madeline's gift, I'm going to be doing a little review of her blog. So here are the things I love about A Chic Bookworm:

-The very aesthetic bookstagram worthy pictures. Madeline's books photos are simply beautiful, and I love how they really tie the whole blog together

-Her reviews (of course). Madeline has a really great way of capturing the best and worst parts of a book, along with awesome graphics to make the post even more enjoyable to read.

-The overall layout of the blog. Madeline's blog template is just too pretty not to compliment. Honestly it's beautiful, and her blog graphics add so much to each post.

-Madeline's spunky writing voice! She's so upbeat and cheerful, she's a lot of fun to read!

-The nice mix of book posts and lifestyle posts are a good balance and engaging to the readers.

-Madeline herself. I have interacted with Madeline a few times through comments, and she is friendly, interesting, and welcoming to everyone on her blog. I can't wait to get to know her better and continue reading her blog in the coming year!

The Character Karaoke Tag

Hey guys! Ellie nominated me for this tag! Thanks Ellie! I'm going to be focusing on my contemporary for this one, which focuses on two teens: Emmanuel and Athena. I don't yet have a title-- working on that.

What song best describes the mood of your novel?

This one was really hard to choose, but I think "Let Your Troubles Roll By" by Carbon Leaf is the mood I'm looking for. This novel has a lot of reflections of things that I've experienced in my life, and during that time I listened to this song a lot, and I think it really leaked into the book a lot and into the souls of the characters.

Pick a Character and A Song to Describe Them

For this one I'm going to Emmanuel-- my artsy protagonist. For him I think that the song I would choose is Addict with a Pen by Twenty One Pilots. Emmanuel has a really friendly outward appearance and has convinced pretty much everyone, including himself, that he's ok. But really he's hurting from stuff that happened to him in the past and has locked it all away deep inside his heart. He's also searching for answers and reasons, whether he realizes or not. I feel like this song really describes how Emmanuel truly feels.

One of your characters at karaoke night when- gasp!- they've been asked to get up and sing! What song do they choose and how do they perform it?

First of all, if Athena was asked to sing Karaoke she would NOT be into it. She would probably freak out and shake her head and Emmanuel would have to drag her onto the stage. But once she got over it, I'm pretty sure she would choose Fight Song. Although Athena wouldn't usually listen to such mainstream music, Fight Song is definitely an Athena song for something like karaoke.

Go-To Song When Writing Battle Scenes

Unfortunately, in this particular story there are not any battle scenes (it's frankly a huge drawback to consider if you are thinking of writing contemporary). But when I do write battle scenes I listen to something with a lot of instruments and tension. Lately I have been into listening to the Dr. Strange soundtrack at like all times of the day, so I would probably say one of those. Maybe Smote and Mirrors or Astral Doom, if you want the specific tracks.

Athena/Minerva- Goddess of Wisdom, Handicraft, and Strategic Warfare: Series with the Best World-Building

The world in this series was great as well as the plot and structure and everything about it.

Hades/Pluto- God of the Underworld: Favorite Book with a Dark, Ominous Plot

Stephen King is a master at freaking people out, and this book was spooky for sure.

Aphrodite/Venus- Goddess of Love and Beauty: Favorite Book Cover on a 2016 Release

I have yet to read this one as it just came out, but is that cover not totally epic?

Ares/Mars: God of War and Bloodshed: Most Violent Book You've Ever Read

There was a lot of assassination and just generally disturbing things that happened in these books, especially this one. But they were superb books and I love them and would recommend them, just fair warning.

Hephaestus/Vulcan- God of Blacksmiths and Fire: Biggest Fictional Crush

Haha sorry to double up on the Percy Jackson references but Leo Valdez...He's great

Artemis/Diana- Goddess of the Hunt and Virginity: Favorite Heroine

Nasuada definitely wins this one-- she essentially carried this whole series on her back and saved everyone. She is amazing. ((and there is also not any good fan art of her I tried))

Phoebus Apollo/Apollo- God of Lights and Healing: Sequel Book that Redeemed it's Series

I don't know if I could go so far as to say it 'redeemed' the series but at least it closed it up as neatly as possible and left it alone for good. 

Hermes/Mercury- Messenger God of Thieves and Commerce: Book with the Best Message

This book is just incredible. It changed my whole life. I highly, highly recommend it.

Hestia/Vesta- Goddess of Hearth and Home: Most Relatable Book ((Or Book that is Closest to Your Heart in General))

This book has meant a lot to me for a really long time. It's sort of just my comfort book, the book that I turn to when I just need something warm and familiar and beautiful to read. This is that book for me.

Demeter/Ceres- Goddess of Fertility and Agriculture: Favorite Bookish Setting

The Night Circus!! This book's whole vibe is just too fun.

Dionysus/Bacchus- God of Wine and Celebration: 2016 Book You are Most Anticipating

Mic's Questions:

1. What is the name and what does she/he look like of your favored character? My favorite character I've ever written as of now is Emmanuel who is this artsy kid who plays a lot of video games. He's blond with blue eyes and not that tall, and wears T-shirts, jeans, and beat up Vans all the time. 

2. What would you describe your writing style as? I think my writing style is fairly descriptive, but I can't really describe it haha, this is hard question.

3. How much writing do you complete in a week? I have no idea to be honest- it depends on how busy I am and how inspired I guess.

4. Plotting...on a note card, in a notebook, or in your brain? I plot in a notebook.

5. What does your book couple's wedding look like? Oh my gosh haha this is too funny. Ok I feel like it would be on a mountain with the sun setting in the background, and they would time it perfectly so that they would kiss just as the sun sunk below the horizon. And yes that's cheesy but I'm sorry it's accurate.

6. Ever sketch your characters? Care to share? Um haha yes I do quite a bit actually. Here's one that's super cutesy but oh well it's the best one I have of my current WIP (I did it a while ago so of course I think it's awful but oh well)

7. When did you start to write? As soon as I learned I think. The oldest stuff I have is from second grade, when I was writing stories about leprechauns and dinosaurs.

8. What inspired you? Apparently leprechauns and dinosaurs.

9. What still inspires you? Other books, you writer-y bloggers, and my friend who writes with me.

10. And finally, what would your published book look like, inside and out? Ahh it depends which book it is- the contemporary one I'm working on now (with the above characters) would probably attempt to be very aesthetic and simple, and I'd be very persnickety about the font. My fantasy one that I'm plotting for Nano (screams because it's so soon help) would be the opposite- super busy with over the top fonts and an epic cover.

Vanessa's Questions: 

1. If you could have any writing power what would it be? To be able to think of valid plot twists haha.

2. How do you plot your books? In a journal, I just sort of brainstorm in one giant melting pot then try to sort it out. I do this more for fantasy plots- for contemporaries I just think up a million scenes in my head and then string them together as I'm writing (which is a bad strategy because eventually you run out of scenes and then you're screwed)

3. What is the most frustrating thing that has happened to you while writing? One time I worked really hard on a piece that I submitted into a writing contest and I didn't win and I was pretty disappointed (shallow I know but I spent SO much time on that thing)

4. What's your favorite thing to snack to have while writing? Gosh, I don't usually eat while writing to be honest, but I suppose it would be like crackers or carrots or something.

5. Which word would you say you write too often? I think I write silence and turned too often- I seem to have a lot of scenes where the characters sit in silence (AND NOW I JUST SIT IN SILENCE I'msorrythatwasyeahsorryihadto) and turn around or face something else if that makes sense?

6. Where do you get your writing inspiration? see above question :)

7. Longest amount of time you have written for? I guess I've written for the entire day a few times.

8. Most loved blog post? Of mine? I really love all my blog posts with poetry- First Day being my favorite right now because it's new and I don't hate it yet.

9. Tips for new book writers? haha I sort of consider myself a fairly new book writer (since I've never been published or anything) but I guess my advice to my peers is to not stress the first draft, and just throw everything you can think of into it and not edit it later.

10. Favorite season to write about? I think summer. You don't have to write about school in summer so that's fun.

Blogging Olympics Tag

What with the Olympics going on, I had to take the opportunity to create and Olympics themed tag to celebrate! Here are the (extremely simple) rules:

Team? Team USA!!!!!!!!

If you could compete in an event, what would it be? Probably running. I wish I was super fast like that. It would also be cool to do speed skating in the winter Olympics. Skating that fast would be a dream.

Favorite event to watch? I really like watching gymnastics with my sisters. We used to take gymnastics classes so we have a lot of fun watching the professionals.

Olympian you most admire? Gabby Douglas of course! She is amazing. Even though she didn't qualify for the All-Around this year, she still had a positive attitude and was proud of her teammates. That kind of sportsmanships is what makes her such an awesome athlete. 

What sports do you currently play? I run cross country with my high school.

Summer or Winter Olympics? I think I prefer summer, just because I feel like most of the sports are more interesting. I don't know though, I really love winter too.

Ever been to see the Olympics in person? I wish. I definitely want to someday. It sounds amazing.

A sport that should be in the Olympics? Double dutch jump roping. That would be so rad.

What do you think would be going through your head right before you were about to compete in the Olympics? I think I would be totally terrified, and would be praying so hard that I would do well. I don't think I would really enjoy the pressure though. I mean, I already get super stressed when I'm about to run a cross country race, and that's against a couple schools and I'm nowhere near a scoring runner so....

Q&A-- Answers!

Hello hello! I am back with the answers to my Q&A! Although I didn't get very many questions, the questions I did get were super good and I am really excited to answer them! Thank you to Michaila, Grace Anne, and Vanessa for your awesome questions <3.

Favorite characters/things/animals to draw?: MERMAIDS!!! Mermaids have been my trademark for forever- I love drawing them so much. But besides that I go through phases- right now I'm pretty into drawing just regular old people, but that will probably shift in a month. I've had moments where I've liked drawing fairies, flowers, swords, etc.

Favorite facial feature? (to draw I am assuming): Does hair count because I absolutely love drawing hair.

Favorite book?: It's SO HARD for me to choose my favorite book. To be honest it's really just whatever book I'm reading at the moment. But my top five are probably Falling Kingdoms, To Kill a Mockingbird, Sherlock Holmes, Eragon, and Lord of the Rings.

Best Memory?: Probably snorkeling in Hawaii. Being the mermaid freak I am (read first question), as well as the marine biology nerd I also am, I was in heaven.

If you could be any flower what would you be?: This is so hard! I think I would like to be a California poppy because they are so gorgeous and pop up every year all around my town, in between cracks in the sidewalk, on people's yards, and in the elementary school playground, and nobody can pick them so everyone just has to appreciate their beauty and respect them for who they are and where they choose to grow. And they truly are beautiful.

What is your horoscope? Do you read it sometimes?: Haha I'm a scorpio and I am so far from any of the scorpio traits it's hilarious. I guess I read it whenever I see it somewhere, but I don't really seek it out and I don't take it seriously at all personally. I guess it's because everything about my horoscope is so not me, which is kind of disappointing to be honest. (Do you guys think I'm a scorpio?)

What's something you want to see in the next three days?: A dragon but that's not going to happen so probably my friend with whom I've been wanting to hang out with for a while.

Favorite planet?: Earth of course. But besides that I like Planet Nine. It's a hypothetical planet they have been investigating and think may exist because of the way it's gravitational pull is affecting other celestial bodies. It is SUPER big and SUPER far away. I think it is so interesting.

So some other bloggers have been doing Q&As recently (Ava and Vanessa- check them out they are amazing) and I decided to borrow their idea and do the same. I actually really like answering questions so please ask away! Plus, I realize I don't really post that much about myself or my everyday life on here, so it will help you all to get to know me a little better. So anyways, comment below with as many questions as you can think of. I look forward to answering them!

Rising Authors Tag

Hello! Today I have a tag post (yay!!!). It has been a while since I've done a tag and I am super excited about this one. Thank you Noor from A Little Bit of Sunshine for posting about this tag- I am going to take her offer of anyone participating. Thank you! So, the rules are:

1) Write a post thanking the person who tagged you: include the tag, the 11 questions asked, your answers, and, in reply to the request for a small piece of prose or poetry, share a 150-word story.
2) At the end of the post, provide 11 new questions.
3) Request a brief 150-word story from the people you tagged.
4) Tag at least one person, and include a link to their blog.

1) Write on paper or on the computer?
I write on both to be honest. I do my brainstorming and research usually on paper, and I write poetry on paper almost always, but for my longer stories I prefer the computer.

2) On average, how many words do you write in one session?
Mmm.. I'm not sure. It really depends on the day and how well my words are flowing.

3) Fanfiction: yay or nay?
I don't really have a strong opinion about fanfic. I enjoy reading it every now and then, but only if it is for a book that I felt was incomplete or lacking, or just wasn't my favorite. I'm super nit-picky about details when I'm reading, so fanfic sometimes throws me off because it has new details. I don't know I'm just weird about knowing all the specifics. As for writing, I don't really ever write fanfic because I feel like I'm adding to an already finished story? I don't know I think it all ties back to my crazy detail obsession. But I have nothing against fan fiction or people who enjoy fanfiction- I think it is a great writing form and super cool- I often wish I could get more into it!

4) Have you ever done NaNoWriMo? If so, did you win, and did you like or dislike it?
I have not done it yet but I am doing it this year! I am really excited- I have heard lots of good stuff about it, and I'm already doing some preliminary research for my story!

5) Do you share your writing with your family/close friends?
I used to, but I sort of stopped after I realized every time I talked about a story I stopped writing it. Now I don't give any details about the story or even mention it much until I'm done with the first draft. It is really hard for me though, I constantly want to blab about my story to my good friend who's also a writer.

6) What are some of the most helpful pieces of writing advice you've heard?
One of the most helpful thing's I've ever read that has sort of become my writing mantra is this quote from Shannon Hale:

“I'm writing a first draft and reminding myself that I'm simply shoveling sand into a box so that later I can build castles.”

This is so encouraging for me because I often feel like whatever I'm working on is terrible and want to just stop and throw it away, but this quote keeps me writing even when I think everything is garbage.

7) Do you write poetry?
YES!! I love poetry so much and write a ton- I often process events big and small that occur in my life through poetry, so my journal is full of it.

8) Describe 3 characters from stories that you've written.
So these are some characters from an old short story that I wrote that you can find under my library tab- it's called The Chosen One (cliche I know forgive me, it was a couple years ago).

Marya is a dark wizard. She is very pale with moonbeam hair that has a single streak of pure black. She keeps it braided down her back. Her chosen weapon is daggers and of course her staff. She is very powerful, and dabbles in dark magic that is mysterious and deadly. Even though she appears cold and emotionless, deep down she has a pure heart and wants to do the right thing. Her crescent moon tattoo identifies her as a dark wizard.

Kellin is a light wizard with dark skin and curly hair. He wears white breeches and vests, and fights with an elaborate sword and his staff. Unlike Marya, his magic is more straight forward and offensive- fireballs, forcefields and the like. He is more open, and is the only person who is able to get past Marya's walls and hear what she's really thinking. His eight pointed star tattoo identifies him as a light wizard.

Pierre is the Chosen One, and has come to take his place as a god. He is tall, surly, and wears over the top clothes. Annoying, stuck-up, and greedy, he drives Marya and Kellin crazy.

9) What called you to writing?
I don't know exactly, I have wanted to write as long as I can remember. I actually have stories I wrote back in first and second grade. I guess I've been wanting to write my whole life.

10) Do you like killing off your characters?
No! I'm such a softy I know but I love all my characters so much it really hurts me to kill them off. I postpone it as long as I can and then do it really gently. It's not a good strategy because then I have to go back and make it more intense.

11) Have you gotten published?
I wish. I will be someday!

And here is a snippet of my writing:

As soon as they reached the bank, Pierre quickly jumped off his horse and rushed toward the canoe.

“I shall ride in this. The Chosen One should not be wet, for fear of catching cold. The rest of you can take the horses.”

“I don’t think it will do you much good against the water.” Marya said with a bemused smile. “The gaping hole at the bottom won’t exactly keep you above the surface.

Pierre looked down at the canoe in dismay as he noticed the large gap in the wooden planks. He trudged back over to them and took his horse's reins.

“Well, you probably wouldn’t have made it across without me to guide you anyway.” he sniffed.

Kellin rolled his eyes and dismounted, gesturing for the others to follow suite. He led them to the edge of the bank, where he scanned the bed, looking for a safe place to cross.

“Here should be good.” he called back to them. “The water is choppy but there aren’t too many rocks. Just be careful not to be swept away by the current.”

The group nodded their understanding and Kellin pulled gently on the reins of his horse, leading it into the water. His boots sloshed and splashed as their soles hit the slippery mud, and his feet almost slid out from under him. Digging his heels into the loam he began walking, getting deeper and deeper into the water. The icy cold liquid caused him to shiver as it crept higher and higher, his breeches absorbing it until his legs were soaked. The rest of the party joined him in the water, cringing as the stream rose up to meet them. The horses plodded behind them, picking their way through the slippery stones and patches of mud.

Questions from Poppy and Mop!

Hey readers! I am excited to share with all of you a collab post I did with Poppy and Mop! We interviewed each other about some of our blogging techniques and aspects. Below are my answers to their questions. Check out their blog to see their answers to my questions!

1. What is the thing that you enjoy most about blogging?

I enjoy the community of people. It is so fun to have a group of people who love all the same things as you, and share about their passions. Bloggers are the best!

2. How do you plan your content?

I honestly don't really pan anything. I just sort of get an idea and then I make a draft for it, and then when I get around to it I write it.

3. What is one thing you have learnt since you started blogging?

Always make the photos as large as you can, a solid background looks the best, how to work Canva and make custom images.

4. How did you grow your blog?

TBC really helps me expand my audience- I try to check out all of the new TBC bloggers and drop them comments if I like their content. They often comment back, and we both make a friend :)

5. Why do you blog?

I blog because it is such a good forum to express myself, and I feel like it is a great place to share my passions with lots of wonderful diverse people who enjoy similar things.

So I was nominated by my awesome blogger friend Zelus from My Hopeful Pencil, as well as the lovely Sarah Lou at  Her Electric Ocean for the Infinity Dreams Award (is that a rad name for an award or what, like how can you not do a tag with a name like that?) So I finally got around to doing it! Thank you so much both of you for nominating me!

Eleven Facts:

1) My favorite number is 2

2) Eleven facts really feel like a lot right now

3) I really really love the moon and the stars and space in general. Star gazing is one of my absolute favorites

4) My goals as a grown up are to become an author and do God's will

5) I have two younger sisters (one of which has a blog- Life Through the Lens)

6) I have a very long list of books I want to read, and I still continually pick up books that I find that are not even on the list (the life of a reader right?)

7) Books help me escape reality on a regular basis

8) Right now in my Bible I am reading the Gospel of John

9) I am learning Spanish in school right now, and I want to eventually become fluent

10) I really love wearing socks with neat patterns on them

11) My favorite school subjects are anything that challenges and engages me (but especially art, english, and science...oh but I also really love my history class...and yeah I really love all the subjects)

Zelus's Questions Answered:

1. What's the longest time you've gone without sleep? I actually have no idea, probably not that much, my family really loves sleep.

2. What's the best compliment you've ever received? The best compliment I've ever received...that's tough... I'm going to say the compliment that I am very wise, I don't know why but that always makes me feel good inside.

3.  What do you feel you lack? Wow, ok, deep. I feel like I lack quietness. I feel that my life is always whirring or humming or singing, which can be good but sometimes it's important to be still.

4.  If you could repaint your room (in one colour, no wallpaper or anything else), what colour would it be? This is going to sound very boring but white. I want it to be all white so that I can hang lots of neat pictures and art prints on it, without the colors clashing, and have tons of pops of color everywhere. I sort of want my room to be a blank canvas for me to paint on with all my favorite colors.

5.  Have you taken your Myers-Briggs personality test? If so, what are you? If not, go and read about the 16 personalities (briefly) and what do you think you are (based on just reading the 16 personalities) I am an INFJ (I took the test after reading this question and it weirded me out how accurate it was)

6. Have you ever danced in the rain? Indeed I have

7. What's your heritage? On my dad's side, my ancestors came to New England with some of the very early settlers. They eventually moved to California to become apple pickers after the Dust Bowl. On my mom's side, I am also originally European, but my great great grandma was a Native American, and my grandpa is Jewish. I also have Native American on my dad's side as well I believe. 

8. What is your perfect pizza? Bacon, basil, tomato

10. If you could be any age for a week, what age and what would you do? I don't know I guess I hope to be every age for at least a week and I suppose I will just do (and have done so far) normally extraordinary things in those week(s).

11. What would you do differently if you knew that no one was judging you? I think that I would wear dresses and skirts more and just dress more like myself. I don't know why but I always get self conscious in skirts and dresses and generally prettier things so I always chicken out and never wear them even if I really like them.

1. What is your favorite quote? "I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people." -Vincent Van Gogh

2. What is your favorite aspect of blogging? Being able to express myself and the things I love as they truly are.

3. Where do you find inspiration for your posts? Probably mainly on other blogs, and on Pinterest

4. Who is your role model, and why? My role model is probably my youth group leader, she really inspires me and makes me want to be like her.

5. What was the last movie you watched? I believe it was The Martian, which was very good but not as good as the book.

6. Where do you see your blog in the next 5 years? I hope that I will still be blogging, and hopefully it will be about art that I am doing then and of course where God has taken and inspired me.

7. What is your favourite TV show? I know I'm a nerd but I have to say The Cosmos.

8. If you could describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be? Creative, Imaginative, Imperfect

9. If you were a disney character, which one would you be? I know it sounds sad, but I think I would be Ellie in Up. She doesn't really talk but I feel like I can relate to her sort of whimsical spirit and her outlook on life. 

10. Is there anything you feel strongly/passionately about? I feel strongly passionate about Jesus and His Word, art and the way it impacts the world, words and their power, the environment and being good to the Earth, and equality and love for everyone

11. What is your starbucks order? Passionfruit iced tea no sweetener with strawberries and a turkey bacon sandwich.
